What a day to die!

Welcome to Black Salt Bay, Connecticut, named for the black-sand beach that preserves the spirits of the dead. Death on the beach isn’t just an aesthetic—it’s admission into the top ghost sanctuary on the East Coast, where hauntings are celebrated and death is just the start of a new party.

But parties kind of suck when you’re the one cleaning up after them, as medium Audacity Jenkins-Noncent knows all too well. Living for the joy of the dead is chaotic, but as the descendant of the town’s founders and protector of the town’s magic, she can’t turn her back on her calling. Even if she could, she knows she doesn’t deserve to, not after she failed the one man she ever loved. But Audacity comes from a powerful and degenerate bloodline—when an attempt at independence taps into a dark vein of magic, the dead she’s supposed to protect turn violent… just in time for the Summer Seance Festival, the biggest tourist event of the year.

Meanwhile, Eli Usher—mortician, entrail divination expert, and Audacity’s former love—vowed never to return to Black Salt Bay. After tragedy and Audacity tore his family and his heart to pieces, he’s determined to use his gift to help the living, giving mourners the closure he never got. Then the bodies start sending him signs he can’t ignore—there’s a terrible darkness gnawing at his hometown, one his own grief helped unleash, and he finds himself returning to the place, and the woman, he swore he’d never see again.

As the dead begin to hunt the living, Audacity and Eli must work together to unearth the truth of the town’s true power and stop the terror looming over Black Salt Bay. As old feelings begin to resurface, they realize the spark between them may not be dead and buried… but will they survive long enough to try again?
